What is AutoCAD?
CAD stands for "Computer Aided Design." AutoCAD is a line of two-dimensional and three-dimensional design software produced by the Autodesk company. It includes a powerful suite of features to improve workflow and create true-to-life maps, diagrams, structures and schematics. CAD software is equal part design and analysis. The design is needed to produce models and prepare component production, and the analysis helps calculate stress levels, the influence of forces and the influences of finite elements in a design. According to a General Electric survey, 60 percent of manufactured parts errors were related to incomplete, ambiguous or impossible drafts -- problems easily corrected with the support of software like AutoCAD.

AutoCAD has a very special role to play in future. It is a well-established 2D drafting package. By being so good at the task of drafting, AutoCAD will remain relevant for the future.
Autodesk is changing this software in small ways. It is incorporating as much advanced 3D as possible without changing the identity of the software. It is also doing best to keep AutoCAD looking modern and cutting edge by including design techniques like “heads up” for data entry. It has also followed basic software modernization trends over the years, such as incorporating the Ribbon and being offered for sale via download mode.
Over the last few decades, 3D has taken a strong grasp in the architectural viewpoint of the business for visualization, and although AutoCAD can do 3D, the main concern for people right now is AutoCAD’s future is Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM needs a much more advanced software package. Products such as Autodesk® Revit® are advancing and being increased in the number of usage every year.
Although many companies are using Revit, many more are sticking to AutoCAD and its core functionality—very effective 2D & 3D drawing software. The companies who have already invested a lot of money in AutoCAD software and training will have to invest a lot to products such as Revit, which won’t be a feasible thing for many.
AutoCAD will keep making drawings for diverse industries for upcoming years with a requirement of very minimal learning knowledge.
